I love the Wirral. It is where I have lived for most of my life (we arrived as a Scouse immigrants decades ago) and where I have raised my family. I feel privileged to have been able to do so.  It is an area of great natural beauty, with many lovely people and interesting places to visit, all in all a gem of a place.

I have seen many changes over the years though and the places I grew up in, Rock Ferry and Wallasey, bear little resemblance to those areas today and it seems to me (and I would love to hear your views) that there is a growing gap between our grandest and poorest areas.

These are clearly many issues that need to be addressed but having said that, I hope that Urban Creatives can be part of what I am now starting to see as a movement to encourage change, to try to make a difference, albeit in a small way at present.  There are projects, teachers, artists, artisans, some M.P.s, councillors and communities, all creating new and exciting work or spreading the word about the benefits of creativity, promoting community spirit and involvement. This is all good news and bodes well for the future of the Wirral.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." Margaret Mead

Sometimes the images and descriptions used for the Wirral don’t do it justice or fully represent the different aspects of it.  Some of our supposedly less affluent parts still have beautiful buildings, parks and a history worth knowing about - all of  which should inform future plans.  I believe it is important, for all of us, that change is appropriate and life enhancing because whilst it might not be happening in your area, it will have a knock on effect.  I have started to take photographs which will eventually cover the different and diverse areas, hopefully emphasising all that is positive.  I hope that by doing so people might recall and recognise places familiar to them and be encouraged to investigate what changes are occuring there.  In the coming months these  will form part of an exhibition, something I hope will encourage real pride in where we live. If you have any stories, photos, anecdotes to share then we would love to hear from you!

our mission

To encourage 'can do' attitudes, creative thinking and action, to see the role of the Arts and Creativity being recognised and valued, thus playing a key part in creating healthy, vibrant, enterprising communities, and to ensure that doing all of the above is as enjoyable as possible! as enjoyable as possible!

our vision

Urban Creatives' vision is to see The Arts, in all its formats, being used as a way to release untapped potential and creativity for the benefit of all communities across the Wirral peninsula.
